On Sunday, September 28th, the ARLGP held its 17th annual Paws in the Park dog walk and canine fun day at the Westbrook Middle School. We are proud to announce that $20,000 was raised to support the ARLGP and our life-saving programs.
We were given a beautiful fall summer day, with temperatures hitting 80. We welcomed local vendors who set up shop to connect with dog owners (and their canines too). Over 15 local rescue and adoption organizations came with adoptable pups, with many pooches finding new fur-ever homes at the event. To keep the crowd entertained, we welcomed back the SMARRT agility club, who always puts on a tail wagging show. We were thrilled to introduce Maine State Trooper Jeremy Forbes with his police K9 Champ (an ARLGP alum!), who put on a very informative demonstration of Champ’s police work and training.
Throughout the day we were delighted with the musical talents of Pretty Girls Sing Soprano. Erin OValle, WMTW news anchor, kept the day moving as our event emcee. For our canine contests, Erin was joined by WMTW meteorologist, Mallory Brooke and our favorite WHOM radio man, Teddy McKay to judge the competition. Canines competed in categories of Best Tail Wag, Best Kiss, Best Wag- and much more. We had some very talented pooches in the competition.
Our top dog walk fundrasier was our very own board president, Kevin Mahoney and his team from Martin’s Point Health Care. Way to go Kevin and Martin’s Point, and to all the individual and team fundraisers who collected donations for the ARLGP! All in all, it was a beautiful, tail-wagging day! Thank you to everyone who came out to strut their mutt, and participate in the fun.
We’d like to give a big PAWS UP to our 2014 Paws in the Park event sponsors: Idexx, Harbor Consulting, Marc Gup of Keller Williams, Sephora Values Inside Out, Electricity Maine, Fish & Bone, The Leash We Can Do, Putney, Patriot Subaru, and Volk Packaging.
