Every holiday season we celebrate our ‘12 Saves of Christmas’ and count down 12 of our most memorable adoption stories from the year. Visit our blog daily to see who else we feature, with our final and most memorable story announced Christmas Day!
Hazel and Autumn (formerly Awesome and Silverfox) first arrived as siblings to the ARLGP in May of 2013. They were young bunnies, under 4 months old. They were adopted in August of 2013, but returned to the ARLGP in May of 2014. As siblings, we wanted to keep them together in a new home, which made it a bit more difficult to find a home ready to adopt two bunnies. They were also quite large, which required extra large rabbit enclosures and lots of hay, food and supplies.
After 3 months of being back at the ARLGP, a wonderful woman came by interested in adopting a rabbit. She had been following our bunnies on the website, and had seen Hazel and Autumn online the last time they were available. When she saw they were back and looking for a new home, she quickly came in to meet them. After seeing their adorable faces, and big floppy ears, she scooped them up in no time!
Hazel and Autumn now have an awesome new home with their mom, Elizabeth. They have a custom-built enclosure, and are spoiled with fresh fruit and veggies daily. “They groom each other daily, lie side by side, and rest their heads on each other. They are not fond of being picked up but they love to put their heads together so that they can have their noses and ears pet and rubbed at the same time and will stretch their back legs out while being pet and spoken softly to. They love carrots and kale from the garden but their favorite being bananas, often taking it from my hand before I can even reach in. They are gentle, sweet and beautiful bunnies. It is a joy for me to love and care for them everyday. Thank you Animal Refuge League!”
We LOVE a good bunny success story! We know bunnies make excellent family pets, and encourage people to consider rabbit adoption when looking for a new furry family member. View our available bunnies online here, or stop by and say hello (bonus points if you bring them a carrot!).
