June Recap

June was an awesome month here at the ARLGP! We look forward to National Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat Month every year, and this year was especially fantastic. We sent 170 cats and kittens off to their new beginnings over the past 30 days, and we think that’s something to put our paws in the air to celebrate! Thank you to everyone who participated in Adopt-a-Shelter-Cat Month, we think it was a roaring success.

Here’s a peek at our June adoption stats:

June also brought our annual auction and gala event, Fur Ball! On June 18th more than 280 local pet lovers, pet parents, animal advocates and ARLGP friends joined us at the Holiday Inn by the Bay to support Greater Portland animals in need. Our biggest fundraiser of the year, Fur Ball raised over $60,000 to support our life-saving programs. View our complete album of Fur Ball photos on our facebook page.

We also held our very first fashion fundraiser! PEARL (Poodles Endorsing the Animal Refuge League) was held at a beautiful estate in Scarborough and brought together over 100 fashion-forward guests (both two and four-legged). It was a smashing success!

pride2015_1 We found ourselves out the door quite a lot throughout the month. Miss Kitty, our feline mascot, made her annual Pride Parade (or, Purr-ade) appearance along with more than 70 other local businesses, groups and organizations. It was a fantastic time.

We’re also celebrating the fact that we microchipped 70 pets in June! Microchipping is our #1 way of reuniting lost pets with their owners, and this is a particularly important time to encourage microchipping as July 4th approaches. More animals go missing on July 4th than any other day of the year due to the holiday festivities (read our July 4th pet safety tips!). There is still time to microchip your pet before the holiday! Stop by the ARLGP during our open hours (no appointment necessary) for this quick and easy procedure. Microchips are just $35 per pet at the ARLGP.

We look back at June with excitement and glee! The summer is always a wonderful time of year in Maine, and we think it may just be the perfect time to meet your new four-legged friend. We hope to see you at the ARLGP soon!
